Zurich-based Astrasana Research AG has submitted an application to the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) for a pilot project on regulated cannabis distribution by mail. The canton of Graubünden is considered an ideal location — particularly due to its vast geography and limited accessibility of distribution points in rural areas.
Delivery as an access model
While existing Swiss pilot projects rely on stationary distribution points in cities such as Zurich, Basel, or Bern, Astrasana Research AG is pursuing a new approach: distribution by mail. This would allow people in remote areas to participate in the project — a model that is particularly relevant for the canton of Graubünden.
Scientific supervision
The pilot project will be scientifically supervised in collaboration with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). The focus is on the societal impact of regulated access via postal delivery, as well as questions of product safety and education.
Approval pending
The application is under review by the FOPH. Federal approval is a prerequisite for the project to begin. Graubünden would thus become the first canton where cannabis could be delivered by post as part of a pilot project.
