The Astrasana Group announces that its subsidiary Astrasana Pharma AG has received a cultivation licence for medical cannabis from Swissmedic. This licence permits the controlled cultivation of cannabis plants with THC content above 1% and represents a significant milestone for the company.

Comprehensive Licensing Portfolio

With the Swissmedic cultivation licence for Astrasana Pharma AG, the pharmaceutical wholesale permits (GDP) and narcotics authorisations held by Bogen Pharma AG in Switzerland, and the fully licensed Astrasana Pharma s.r.o. in the Czech Republic, the group is optimally positioned internationally to actively shape the medical cannabis supply in Europe.

Cultivation in Switzerland is carried out on behalf of Bogen Pharma AG, which is responsible for processing and distribution to pharmacies and medical institutions.

Strategic Outlook

CEO Yves Antoniazzi explains: “With our internationally coordinated structure and regulatory-certified subsidiaries, we are ideally positioned for growth in Switzerland and the Czech Republic.”

The Astrasana Group pursues a vertically integrated approach spanning cultivation, processing, and distribution — ensuring full control over the value chain and the highest pharmaceutical quality standards.

Regulatory Context

The granting of a Swissmedic cultivation licence for cannabis with THC content above 1% is subject to stringent requirements. Applicants must demonstrate comprehensive security concepts, qualified personnel, and GMP-compliant infrastructure. The licence is subject to regular Swissmedic inspections and may be revoked in the event of non-compliance.

For the Astrasana Group, this licence completes the regulatory foundation in Switzerland. Together with the existing production facility in Tagelswangen and the distribution permits held by Bogen Pharma AG, the company is now able to cover the entire value chain from plant to patient within Switzerland. This reduces dependence on international supply chains and strengthens supply security for Swiss patients.
